Description

The Boiling Spring Academy is a restored 1830 one room school house located in Primm Historic Park on Moores Lane, just before Wilson Pike. The park is the site of two National Register properties: Boiling Spring Academy established as a school in 1830, and a prehistoric Native American Mound Site, 900-1500 (A.D.). The site was excavated in the 1920’s by the Smithsonian and is known as the Fewkes Site. In 2003 the Primm family donated the two acres encompassing the academy and mounds to the City of Brentwood. The school is now in need of several repairs. Scope of Work-Specifications include: Shutter Repair Replace four broken or missing shutter louvers with cedar, cypress or a solid wood and reassemble with epoxy filler with a non-toxic primer. Upon completion, paint to match existing color. Please indicate the cost to purchase shutters. The City may be able to obtain shutters for the contractor. Brick Replacement There are eleven brick locations that need to be replaced using time period brick and mason work must match the historical restoration. Type N mortar must be used and Mason must be familiar and highly experienced with historical restoration. Tuckpointing Tuck-pointing, which is the way of using two contrasting colors of mortar in the joints of brickwork, to give an artificial impression that very fine joints have been made, is also needed. Time period specific mortar (type N) must be used and all/tuck-point must be in thin layers for minimal shrinkage. Joint with flat steel striker for bonding purposes and the mason must be familiar with historical tuck-pointing. Front Door The hinge side wood on the front door is rotten and the door edges are not securely attached. The door needs to be removed, possibly repainted, repaired and reinstalled.
