| Description | The proposed Work is generally described as follows: The Guerin Creek mitigation site is a tidal salt marsh restoration to satisfy the federal and state mitigation requirements for the Spring/Fishburne US 17 Drainage Improvements project located on the Charleston peninsula. Historically, the site had likely been salt marsh prior to its conversion for rice production, and later to the current pine plantation. This project will restore existing freshwater wetlands to a tidal salt- marsh. The project will include the harvesting of all industrially planted timber, and removal of stumps. The planting beds and furrows will be leveled within the restoration area, and the area graded to an elevation below mean high water to allow the natural reestablishment of the tidal salt marsh environment. The site is located adjacent to Guerin Creek in Charleston County. The total area of the site is 26.5 acres. The total disturbed area of the site is 8.5acres, including 7.9 acres of restored salt marsh, and 0.6 acres for the construction entrance. There will be approximately 1728 cubic yards of on-site borrow for the temporary tidal control berms,which will be removed upon completion of construction. Temporary berms with stone outfall structures will be used to control tidal flow on to the site during land disturbing activities. | ||||||
