Description | Work on this contract is for preparing and painting the MALSR fiberglass poles and steel towers at stations 2+00 thru 24+00 and includes the following: 1. Previous to any prep work or painting, cover/protect surfaces of different colors or that are not to be painted to prevent drippage/spillage. 2. Fiberglass masts/cross-bars and supports: Inspect all surfaces to be painted and sand/wire brush any areas of loose/chipping/flaking/chalking paint or rust down to solid surface. Spray all surfaces to be painted with low-pressure solution of PPG Prep 88 or approved equal water based alkaline cleaner diluted per manufacturer instructions per specific conditions. Thoroughly wet all surfaces and allow solution to dwell per manufacturer requirements based on surface temperature. Power wash surface to remove all traces of Prep 88 and allow to dry fully. Test surface to assure the surface pH has been neutralized (7.5 maximum). Use a leaf blower to remove excess water and accelerate drying time and then allow surface to dry minimum of 2 hours. Once surface is dry and ambient temperature is at least 5 deg. F above the dew point (to prevent condensation on the newly painted surface), apply PPG Industries PSX 700 or approved equal Siloxane high gloss epoxy paint with brush or roller to the required surfaces. Mix 2-part components per manufacturer’s directions of 4 parts resin to 1 part cure. Color is aviation orange (P/N 90915003 - See LIR Paint Kit sheet at bottom of spec). 3. Steel RAIL Towers: Solvent clean surfaces to be painted per SSCP-SP1. Sand/wire brush all areas of rust, loose/scaled/peeling paint to remove any loose material down to solid surface. Assume a minimum of 6 man hours of sanding prep time per steel tower. Spray/rinse off sanding residue with low-pressure solution of PPG Prep 88 (concurrent with the fiberglass mast as outlined in Item 2. above). Use a leaf blower to remove excess water and accelerate drying time and then allow surface to dry minimum of 2 hours. Once surface is dry, spot-prime any bare metal or rust with TowerPlex CC2925 or approved equal Rust Inhibitive Waterborne Primer. Allow primer to cure per manufacturer instructions and apply 2 coats of TowerPlex (or approved equal) Aviation Orange CC2920 and Aviation White CC2919 paint to match existing color bands. Paint shall be applied and allowed to dry between coats per manufacturer’s recommendations. 4. Clean and restore site to original condition |
