Description

Seeking bids for the Spanish Peaks Forest Restoration Project. Spanish Peaks SWA (State Wildlife Area) is located west of Trinidad in the southern Front Range of Colorado. Spanish Peaks SWA forest types consists of a mixture of mixed conifer and ponderosa pine stands. It is CPW’s desire to implement timber mastication in select locations to reduce the amount of conifer vegetation on the SWA. By reducing basal area in forested stands, CPW hopes to increase forest heterogeneity and increase understory production. The purpose of this project is to create wildlife habitat and improve overall forest health. Depending on the cost/acre, it is anticipated that approximately 200-300 acres of forest will be mechanically treated before the end of the project.
