Description

Treated water at the Griswold Water Purification Facility (WPF) is stored in a buried 15 million gallon (MG), concrete finished water reservoir that was originally placed into service in approximately 1968. The City of Aurora conducted a comprehensive tank inspection and condition assessment of the 13 million gallon (MG) finished water reservoir in 2020 for the purpose of identifying needed repairs inside the tank. The City is planning for a project to conduct the repairs while the treatment facility is out of service during the fall/winter of 2021/2022. Based on the tank condition assessment and corresponding design of repairs, the project will include the following. 1. Demolition of the existing wood gates, stems, and appurtenances. 2. Removal of corrosion and repair concrete twin tees and concrete beams. 3. Removal of the existing coating on the inlet and outlet steel standpipes and associated structural platform support and re-coating. 4. Removal of the existing coating on the overflow pipe and vent pipe and recoating 5. Replacing the 18” drain valve and appurtenances. 6. Installing support brackets under the twin tee stems at the north and south sides of tank where the twin tees rest on wall. 7. Removing the existing cathodic protection anodes from inlet and outlet standpipe and replace with new anodes. 8. Repair of the corrosion on the handrail around standpipe platform. 9. Removal of the coating that is flaking off of all concrete column bases.
