Description | Original Set Aside: Historically Underutilized Business (HUBZone) Set-Aside (FAR 19.13). This preliminary site characterization report was developed for the McAlpine Locks and Dam Water Line Repair/Replacement project. Recently the water line, which supplies water to facilities within the Shippingport Island, was damaged along the section that is located within the Louisville and Portland Canal. Based on As-built drawings, the portion of the water line within the canal is an 8-inch polyethylene pipe. The conceptual repair solution is to replace the damaged portion of the water line with a new section installed under the canal utilizing horizontal directional drilling (HDD). The newly installed pipeline would tie into the existing water line on both the north and south sides of the canal. There is an approximate 21 feet tall concrete guide wall along the south side of the canal at the existing water line location. Once on the southside of the guide wall, the existing water line was generally installed parallel with the guide wall for approximately 1300 feet. The north side of the canal consist of a riprapped and overgrown vegetated sloped bank at the existing water line location. |
