Description

The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission and the San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority are starting on the environmental impact report and public comment period for the Valley Rail project. The project would implement two new daily round trips for Amtrak's San Joaquins line, which currently runs from the Sacramento Valley station at 401 I St. to Oakland and Bakersfield. The project would also bring the Altamont Commuter Express, which currently runs between Stockton and San Jose, to Sacramento. The trains would stop at five new stations in the Sacramento area, in Natomas, Old North Sacramento, midtown, at Sacramento City College and Elk Grove. As of July 18, 2022, this project is in design stages with state funding. Information regarding a bid and construction timeline hasn't been confirmed.
