Description

As of September 11, 2023, the bid is pending and an award has not yet been announced. Three design-build teams will compete for a big highway project in Seattle that promises to keep the winner busy for the next seven years. This project will replace the aging Portage Bay Bridge that carries part of state Route 520 and build a landscaped lid over the highway southeast of Roanoke Park. The contract is estimated at $725 million-$900 million. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ A new Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project, expected to start in 2023 and wrap up no earlier than 2029, will replace the 1960s-era Portage Bay Bridge, currently supported by hollow concrete columns. The new bridge will replace the old structure with more security while extending SR 520's transit/HOV system and cross-lake bicycle and pedestrian trail. To replace the current four-lane bridge, WSDOT plans two parallel three-lane bridges, one for eastbound traffic and one for westbound traffic. A landscaped Roanoke lid over SR 520 is included in the project, along with a 30-ft-wide bicycle and pedestrian crossing over I-5. Per the owner, as of January 14, 2022, the project is in preliminary design. The owner states that they plan to advertise the design-build contract for this project in late 2022. The owner states that the anticipated ad date for the RFQ is mid-November 2022 and the anticipated ad date for the RFP is January 20, 2023. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
