VMFA New Expansion and Renovation for CM@Risk

The proposed facility includes an approximately 173,000 square foot main building expansion that will include new gallery spaces for African Art, Photography, and 21st century art; a new special exhibitions space with crate and art storage nearby; conference and board rooms; a photography studio; and a special events space with dining facilities and excellent acoustics, able to seat 500 patrons for a seated meal. The project also includes renovating approximately 45,000 square feet of existing facilities, including galleries for European , East Asian, Native American and Pre-Columbian art, as well as the 1936 entrance, Evans Court, and the Raysor Center housed in the former library to allow for improved collections storage, public event hosting, art handling, gallery and theater space, and also better use of administrative spaces.
