Professional Water Engineering Services

To provide professional water engineering services to the Utilities Department. Basic Services provided may include, but are not limited to the following: a. Review proposed alignment and line sizing for the waterline improvements. b. Ensure that all projects are designed and constructed in accordance with the City of Topeka, Shawnee County Standard Technical Specifications, and Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Policies, General Considerations and Design Requirements for Public Water Supply Systems in Kansas. c. Meet with City staff at critical stages throughout design and construction of projects to answer questions. d. Provide hydraulic modeling of the City’s distribution system to make recommendations on water main extensions to serve new development and improvements or optimizations in all five (5) pressure zones. e. Provide training for professional development of Utility Department water staff. f. Provide technical advice to Utility Department water staff on distribution system issues including repairs, construction, pressure, flow, and fire protection. g. Review plans for development projects to ensure compliance with City and KDHE standards and constructability. h. Review development projects in the CityWorks program to ensure water infrastructure is available to support proposed development. i. Provide subject matter expertise to all Utility Department water staff on various water topics, including treatment plant projects, meters, towers, booster pump stations, and distribution piping, valves and hydrants. j. Provide other consulting services required by the Utilities Director related to treatment, distribution, or modeling
