Description | SWaM Goal: 12% The I-81 Corridor Improvement Program (Program) is an extremely important program focused on delivery of a variety of projects to improve the safety and operational characteristics of the I-81 Corridor within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Program currently consists of an array of Operational projects as well as Capital Projects spread across the 325-mile long corridor. The projects span numerous jurisdictional boundaries as well as VDOT District Boundaries (Staunton, Salem, and Bristol Districts). The program is funded by the I-81 Corridor Improvement Fund, which consists of four distinct funding sources: statewide truck registration fees, statewide diesel taxes, statewide road user fees, and a special regional motor fuel tax. The program is unique in that it has no defined end; it is perpetual in nature. As projects are completed, the appointed I-81 Committee will consider new projects. |
