Description | The purpose of the work is to install a new access port on the City’s historic buried Town Brook brick pipe. The City constructed the pipe in the late 1800’s to convey stormwater runoff underneath City Hall to downstream locations. In 1983, the portion of the pipe upstream of City Hall was blocked and flow re-routed to a new drainage pipe under the adjacent parking garage. Access to the brick pipe downstream of City Hall is difficult due to site constraints, depth to the pipe, and abutting private structures. The new access port will enable video inspection of the pipe for future rehabilitation work. The access port must be watertight due to pressure flow conditions that develop inside the pipe during heavy rainfall. |
