Description | Stormwater drainage improvements at three separate locations within the Town of Westerly, Rhode Island. Descriptions of each location and the scopes of work for the proposed drainage improvements are provided below. 1. Bayberry Road: Bayberry Road is located in a residential area in the Misquamicut section of Westerly. The road does not currently contain any stormwater drainage infrastructure. A localized, low-lying area of the road near 16 Bayberry Road becomes flooded during precipitation events. The proposed stormwater improvements intend to collect the stormwater that accumulates in the area prone to flooding, and discharge the water to a drywell for infiltration. 2. Canterbury Drive & Sterling Drive: Canterbury Drive and Sterling Drive are intersecting roads located in a residential area in the Bradford section of Westerly. During periods when the groundwater table is high, groundwater has been observed seeping out of the surface along the southern side of Canterbury Drive between North Woody Hill and Circle Drive. The heightened groundwater table has caused a negative impact on the condition of the asphalt pavement, particularly during the winter months when the road freezes over. This groundwater discharge flows along the surface towards the two existing catch basins located in a low-lying area of Sterling Drive, causing progressive erosion along the edge of the roads. The proposed stormwater improvements include installation of curtain drains intended to intercept the groundwater along the southern portion of Canterbury Drive, collect surface water runoff with catch basins at select locations, and convey the water through structures and piping to the existing stormwater structures located on Sterling Drive. 3. Sunny Drive: Sunny Drive is located in a residential area in the northwestern side of Westerly. The road contains a stormwater drainage system consisting of a network of curbside catch basins. During periods when the groundwater table is high, groundwater has been observed seeping out at the surface and onto the west side of the road between 10 and 14 Sunny Drive. The heightened groundwater table has caused a negative impact on the condition of the asphalt pavement, particularly during the winter months when the road freezes over. The proposed stormwater improvements include installation of a curtain drain intended to intercept the groundwater along the properties to the west of Sunny Drive, and discharge the water to an existing catch basin located adjacent to the 14 Sunny Drive property |
