Eyewash and Safety Showers

Provide and install tempering valves for eyewashes and safety showers locations shown below. Tempered Water is defined by ANSI as “A flushing fluid temperature conducive to promoting a minimum 15 minute irrigation period. A suitable range is 16-38°C (60-100°F).” The majority of the existing eyewashes are installed immediately adjacent to sinks and have a hot water supply within a 1 foot. Where possible, installation of tee fittings to supply sink and eyewash is approved. Safety showers are located in hallways and are close to accessible hot water piping. Where it is necessary to add on a “tee” or other fitting to existing copper water supply lines (examples of which would be hallway showers, room 151, room 229), the work shall be done using copper pipe with shut off valve to allow for isolation of the line for service or emergencies.
