Description | As part of the northern section of the Burlington Greenway Rehabilitation, several "Pause Places" were designed to act as landmarks and resting areas along the Greenway, one of which was proposed for the intersection at the ice arena access path at Leddy Park. The City seeks an experienced landscape construction contractor or team of contractors skilled in grading, asphalt paving, concrete, stormwater infrastructure, and horticulture to aid in the construction of the Pause Place at Leddy Park. In addition to the Pause Place, a large bioretention area, designed as part of a stormwater permit with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VTDEC), must also be installed to offset impervious surface added as part of the Greenway Rehabilitation in the southern end of the City. The Pause Place includes replacement of the main walkways to the arena, construction of a concrete oval at the intersection with the Greenway, a fitness station mounted on a new concrete pad, bike racks and trash/recycling receptacles, new landscaping and walkway lighting, and signage. Under the main walkway to the arena, an existing culvert and an associated stone headwall must be reconstructed. In addition to the Pause Place, a large bioretention area, designed as part of a stormwater permit with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VTDEC), must also be installed to offset impervious surface added as part of the Greenway Rehabilitation in the southern end of the City. The bioretention basin includes excavation of the existing turf, installation of subsurface drainage, gravel, and bioretention soils, replacement of an existing inlet to tie in with existing storm infrastructure, and installation of topsoil, mulch and landscaping. As the Greenway is not only a recreation destination but also a transportation corridor, an 8-foot wide accessible route will need to be provided through or around the construction zone to allow pedestrians and cyclists to traverse the Greenway throughout construction. The project will also need to pause construction on the weekend of the Vermont City Marathon and include safe and secure pedestrian and spectator access coordinated with the City Project Manager with input from RunVermont staff.
