Description

Site work and paving for a road / highway in Chicago, Illinois. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway. Conceptual plans call for the expansion of an existing expressway, including establishment of managed lanes, a toll road in each direction between Mannheim Road and Racine Avenue, and transit improvements that aim to reduce congestion. Multi-modal improvements will include additional transit options, expanded linkages between Pace and the Chicago Transit Authority, and pedestrian and bicyclist enhancements. The Illinois Department of Transportation funds projects in three phases: Phase 1 is planning and preliminary studies, Phase 2 is design, and Phase 3 is construction. As of July 20, 2022, this project is in the preliminary planning stages. Funding has only been identified for Phase 1, planning and preliminary engineering, which is complete. No funding has been allotted for Phases 2 and 3. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to consider all potential funding opportunities for final design and construction of this project, including a public-private partnership or a possible capital bill. Because of the lack of funding, no timeline has been established and the project is not included in the Department's FY 2022-2027 Proposed Highway Improvement Program. Construction is not expected to start prior to 2025. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources. The content management team continues to pursue additional details; however, the contact(s) listed have yet to disclose or confirm any information. Inquiries should be directed to the contact(s) listed.
