Description

The OTLF encompasses approximately 48 acres; and is owned and operated by the City of Tucumcari. The site ceased accepting municipal solid waste (MSW) in July 2011, when waste disposal operations transitioned to the new City of Tucumcari Landfill. The OTLF has an NMED-approved Closure/ Post-closure (C/PC) Plan (August 2008). The groundwater monitoring system for the OTLF consists of 4 monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-4), and assessment monitoring wells (AW-3,5,6,7,8,9,10, and 11). The assessment wells were installed as part of an investigation program to assess the extent of a suspected chlorinated solvent plume. Monitoring wells MW-1, 2, and 4 are installed in a lower water-bearing zone; and monitoring well MW-3 and assessment wells AW-3 through AW-11 are installed in an upper water-bearing zone. With the exception of assessment well AW-7, all assessment wells are located within the landfill property boundary. Assessment well AW-7 is located approximately 150 feet east of the southeast corner of the site, and is likely installed within the limits of waste of an older (pre-Subtitle D), closed landfill east of the OTLF. The groundwater flow direction is predominantly from southeast to northwest.
