Area 200 Highway Maintenance Facility

Construct a new, 48 feet by 200 feet (approximately 9,600 square feet) prototype building. The new building will contain offices in the front area of the building with the maintenance shop in the rear of the building. The maintenance shop area will be used to house various types of roadway equipment as well as perform general maintenance on said equipment. Structural loading and foundation types were not available for our use in preparing this report. For engineering purposes, maximum wall loadings of 4 kips per linear foot, maximum column loadings of 50 kips, and floor loading of less than 250 psf have been assumed. Current plans are to support the planned building with a shallow foundation system. In addition, Plans include to construct an employee parking lot on the south and east sides of the new building along with a heavy truck pavement area adjacent to the rear shop section of the building. Daily traffic information was not available prior to this proposal; therefore, we have assumed 30 cars per day in the employee parking area and approximately 10 trucks (HS20 – 88 kips) per day in the heavy traffic area. The existing ground surface elevation where the building will be constructed is approximately EL. +141.5. Current plans are to construct the building at existing grade so as to require minimal fill material within the building footprint.
