Description

Morgan desires to renovate the Schaefer Engineering Auditorium, a 300-seat lecture hall. It has gradually become non-functional due to the poor, missing and broken seating and became non-functional due to a mold outbreak over the summer. The mold has been eradicated but destroyed the fabrics in the room. In addition, the desire is to upgrade the space due to types of lecture events it holds and plans to hold. The fabrication and installation of the new seating will be by others. Coordination and scheduling of activities between the two will be necessary though out the project. The goal is to have the lecture hall ready for the start of the fall semester in 2021. The work is described below. Work is to renovate the Schaefer Engineering Auditorium and may include but is not limited to: * DEMOLITION: Acoustical ceiling tiles (grid to remain), ceiling lights, recessed speakers, seating, wall acoustical panels, carpet throughout, pull down projection screen analog clock, tread nosing/warning strips, and other work as directed. * NEW WORK: Patching and finishing of concrete stair/seat risers/treads and drywall as necessary; painting of handrails/drywall ceiling/walls, flooring/risers/treads; installation of carpet throughout as indicated, stair tread nosing/warning strips; installation of new acoustical panels, new ceiling tiles (supplement grid as necessary), lighting to change to LED, repairing of stair lights, provide lighting controls to allow for dimming and sectional control. * PROTECTION: Work also includes protection of the hung speakers, the rear projection video screen, white boards, and wood trim throughout, podium (which needs to be temporarily relocated). * TEMPORARY WORK: Temporary removal and reinstallation of the podium (which controls various systems and is hardwired in); and other work as directed by the University and indicated in this document and on the attached plans. * SEATING: Furnish and Install three hundred (300) seats. * GENERAL: Clean any air diffusers, final cleaning at end of project. * WORK BY OTHERS: A separate contractor may perform Seating and installation. * COORDINATION: It is anticipated the seating contractor will require access after the demolition of the seats and before any scaffolding is installed for any high work. The installation of the seating is anticipated to take place after the above “ceiling” work has been completed / removal of the scaffolding and any dusty related work and painting of risers and treads.
