Description

Work is to treat 664 acres of non-native common reed, or phragmites australis var. australis, and non-native cattail, typha angustifolia in wetlands on public lands throughout the state. applications will occur on 9 wildlife ares including big muskego lake wildlife area (93 acres), extensive wildlife habitat (55 acres), horicon marsh wildlife area (60 acres), jefferson marsh wildlife area (91 acres), mud lake wildlife area (68 acres), muddy creek wildlife area (13 acres), paradise marsh wildlife area (89 acres), princes point wildlife area (75 acres), theresa marsh wildlife area (120 acres). treatment would be conducted on public lands only. non-native common reed (phragmites australis var. australis) and cattail (typha angustifolia) are invasive plants that overtake native vegetation while providing little value as wildlife habitat. this project is an attempt to control invasive species, improve wildlife habitat and access. treatment would be done chemically with a commercial herbicide containing the active ingredient imazapyr in an aquatic formula, along with an aquatic-approved surfactant.
