Description | Work is to remove the existing ramp system, stairs, and bridges to the UTK Boathouse. The streambank will be rehabilitated as needed, and the area will be dredged to return the creek and river to a depth that will accommodate boat traffic.Project Statement: The ramp system, stairs, and bridges that formerly delivered fairgoers to the boat ramps of the 1982 World's Fair and to the UTK Boathouse has failed. A section of the bridge has collapsed and is partially damming up Second Creek. This condition is creating sediment buildup and physical hazards. The ramp, stairs, and bridge system will not be replaced. Limits of destruction will be determined after structural evaluation. If the streambank is affected, it will be rehabilitated. The area will be dredged to return the creek bottom and river depth to a depth that will accommodate boat traffic. The project will be conducted in such a way as to not compromise the structural integrity of the box culvert system the creek flows through. |
