Description

1)New wood fence; assemble, construct and install new ‘stockade’ type fence board assembly to replace approximately 180 LF of the existing north property fence line as specified: a.New wood fence construction shall extend from the state east property line to the east wall of the AC condenser fence enclosure and continuing from the west wall of the AC condenser fence closure to the east wall of the Rest Room bldg. The wood fence and gate enclosures that surround the existing Statehouse AC equipment and condenser are not included in this scope of work. The Fencing around the restroom enclosure are not included in this scope. New wood fence boards; red cedar; finished board dimension: 6 ft height X 6 inch width X 11/16 to 3/4” thickness; square top profile. 5/8 or 9/16” are not acceptable. Number of boards, pattern and spacing / fence panel; to match existing. Attach with 2 Stainless Steel ring shank fasteners minimum 1 ½ inch fasteners (similar to Simpson S4SND5 4d cedar siding nails) to each horizontal member. 3)New wood panel rails; construct each fence panel sections using (3) equally spaced 2 X 4 horizontal wood rails, positioned and installed at full panel width w/out voids or interruption. 4)New fence posts; overall dimension: 6” x 6” squared treated wood, min. overall length: 9 ft. Post fabrication: full length, off-center growth rings. Peeler cored material will be rejected. Surface prep as required to receive wood stain finish applications. Mechanically fasten low-profile, anodized metal caps to each post to protect exposed wood end-grain. Include all necessary hardware, fasteners and brackets to complete fence panel and assembly installation. 5)All remaining hardware fittings, brackets, bolts, fasteners, heavy duty connectors, screws, in-line and post-ties; install as required to complete fence assembly and installation. 6)Concrete mix; to comply with IDOT, Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, dated, 04-01-2016, Section 503; Concrete Structures. 7)Concrete forming materials: as required to form post piers as specified. 8)Execution a.Note: Prior to project mobilization or construction, the Contractor will schedule the demo and removal of the existing wood post and panel fence assembly. The demo and removal of adjacent volunteer underbrush, trees and vegetation shall be completed to the extent required to fully clear the fence line and prepare the grounds for the new fence installation. i.Wood posts, removed in-total, associated wood fence panels, all fasteners and any related metal wiring, metal fencing or posts located along the (state) fence line. ii.Volunteer vegetation, brush and saplings grown in and/or directly adjacent to the fence line. Vegetation removal will be conducted to create a clear footprint for the new construction. iii.Upon completion of demolition, the fence line and impacted areas shall be left free of any remnant fence material, hardware, trash or debris. iv.Existing post holes will be re-used in new construction and should be identified, staked and protected as required to facilitate new installation. b.The Contractor will be responsible for any finished or surface grading required to prepare the site for construction. Prior to work commencement, inspect the site. Assess and resolve field conditions that would interfere with new construction. c.In compliance with the IDNR CERP, all new fence posts must be installed within the existing post spacing; on-center post spacing must remain unchanged. d.Prior to construction, confirm all post-hole spacings, measure and stake the fence line as required; confirm if any new post locations are required to complete the assembly. e.Prior to and during construction, if or when on-site short- term storage is required, elevate and cover all fence assembly materials and hardware; secure and protect from construction and/or environmental exposures. f.Clean existing post holes free of remnant material and debris. Prepare and tamp holes to the extent required to establish a uniform footprint, diameter and depth. Form and secure each post hole to a min 36 inch depth X a min 12 inch diameter or per the manufacturer’s requirements; whichever requirement is greater. g.Tamp and install a uniform minimum 6 inches of crushed gravel at each post hole base to facilitate drainage. h.Finish and apply surface stain to all exposed post edges and surfaces. Allow all surfaces to thoroughly dry prior to installation per stain manufacturer instructions. i.Set each fence posts; position and secure to be level, upright and plumb. j.Prepare and mix concrete to comply with IDOT Standards, Class SI, Section 503. k.Form, construct and extend the concrete post piers an estimated 4 inches above established grade; trowel finish and slope top surfaces from posts to outer edge of post pier to facilitate positive drainage. l.Secure and protect each post and pier material and construction as required until the assembly is fully set, structurally stable and cured. m.After fence installation apply two coats of approved stain to all exposed edges and surfaces of panels, boards and rails. Allow all surfaces to thoroughly dry as per manufacturer’s recommendations prior to installation. n.Position, install and secure each board assembly to match existing pattern and spacing. o.Install low-domed metal post caps at each fence post location. p.Conduct final clean-up as per Article C, Item 17; Final Cleaning.
