Description

The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: Clearing and grubbing, remove and relocate fire hydrant, minor manhole adjustment, 112.9 LF Curb and Gutter 2.5', 8", 78.8 SY of pavement removal, 1,875.2 SY of 6" PCC pavement, 5 Ton Granular, traffic control 0.3 AC Hydraulic seeding, fertilizing, and mulching - type 1 mix, 1,672 LF Filter socks and removal, 325 LF Fence removal and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. The City of Ames reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days after receipt of bids, and no bid may be withdrawn during this period. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond is to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council, shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained, shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract, and shall guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of two (2) years from and after completion and acceptance by the City. The guaranteed maintenance period shall be four (4) years for new paving. Work shall commence as soon as possible after award and approval of the contract and performance bond. Work shall be completed no later than the designated contract completion date of June 30, 2023. Should the contractor fail to complete the work by this date, liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed. The contractor shall not include sales or use taxes in the bid. Pursuant to the Iowa Code and Iowa Administrative Code, the contractor will be authorized to purchase building materials that will be incorporated into real property on this project tax-free. Iowa Construction Sales Tax Exemption Certificates will be issued by the City, which will authorize suppliers of building materials to sell materials exempt from Iowa sales tax and any applicable local option sales tax and school infrastructure local option sales tax to the entity listed on the certificate. Upon award of the contract, the successful contractor will be required to provide their project information, and information for each subcontractor and supplier requiring exemption certificates. The City does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City. By virtue of statutory authority, preference will be given to products and provisions grown, and coal produced, within the State of Iowa, and to Iowa labor, to the extent lawfully required under Iowa statutes. The City of Ames, Iowa, in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 78 Stat. 252, 42 U.S.C. 2000d 4 and Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Department of Transportation, Subtitle A, Office of Secretary, Part 21, Nondiscrimination in Federally assisted programs of the Department of Transportation issued pursuant to such Act, hereby notifies all bidders that it will affirmatively insure that in any contract entered into pursuant to this advertisement, minority business enterprises will be afforded full opportunity to submit bids in response to this invitation and will not be discriminated against on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in consideration for an award. This notice is given by order of the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa.
