Description | There are approximately three miles of shoreline along Blind Sodus Bay, which is predominantly vacant land or occupied by seasonal residences. Due to record high water levels and wave action in Lake Ontario over the past several years, the Blind Sodus Bay barrier bar has significantly deteriorated. This has accelerated the natural barrier bar rollover process, leading to unstable conditions due to the rapid change in the environment. What was once almost two-thirds of a mile of barrier bar has been reduced to approximately one-quarter of a mile, with breaches on the west and east end. The deterioration of the barrier bar has left the shoreline of Blind Sodus Bay and the Bay ecosystem susceptible to wind and wave action from Lake Ontario. This has caused damage to shoreline properties, damage and death to mature trees and other vegetation on the barrier bar, sediment transport interruption, reduction in wildlife habitat, and reduced water quality in the Bay through sediment accumulation. The Project consists of constructing three new Barrier Bar Breakwaters and re-establishing the existing Barrier Bar to a nature-based shoreline stabilization system that will protect Blind Sodus Bay from Lake Ontario wave action and enhance the overall resiliency of the Barrier Bar. A navigation channel is to be dredged out and approved dredge material shall be placed to restore the sediment transport system through the existing barrier bar to the west. The project will create habitats in nearshore areas within Blind Sodus Bay and protect the surrounding ecosystem. The Owner’s right is reserved to reject all Bids or any Bid no conforming to the intent and purpose of the Bidding Documents.
