Description | The Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) is located in southern Illinois between the Cities of Marion, Carterville, and Carbondale in Williamson, Jackson, and Union Counties. The Refuge was created in part from a land transfer from the War Department now Department of Defense that included about 22,000 acres of the former Illinois Ordnance Plant. The former Illinois Ordnance Plant manufactured landmines, bombs, and artillery for the WWII effort. The buildings and industrial areas on the Refuge were subsequently leased to private companies and other government agencies. There are now many small locations scattered around the Refuge with contaminated soil and water from the industrial activities that are undergoing cleanup. The general purpose of this Statement of Work (SOW) is to support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the various cleanup activities by performing routine groundskeeping type activities around the Refuge, but not at the contaminated sites. Please see below for the point of contact at the facility, period of performance dates, deliverables, and an outline of the tasks. |
