Description

Replace an existing failing blacktop walkway with an accessible concrete walkway meeting the requirements of ANSI 117. Broome Developmental Center (BDC) has a need to replace the entrance walkway to Bldg.# 4B located on the BDC campus. The new walk way must be accessible and constructed out of concrete. Scope of Work includes, but is not necessarily limited to the following: 1.Remove the existing blacktop walkway at Building #4B (marked out in pictures at the end of this document but contractor responsible for verifying all field dimensions) and properly dispose of all removed materials. 2.Install and properly compact 4” of gravel subbase underneath all areas where new walk is to go. Gravel shall be placed in 3” lifts and compacted between each lift. Gravel shall be washed #2 stone. Area prepared shall support a concrete walkway 4’ wide. Add an additional 20’ of walkway where there was none previous. This will attach the walkway to the roadway (see picture at bottom of document for reference). 3. Properly install concrete walkway in area that was excavated. Concrete walkway shall be composed of 4” of 4500 PSI concrete. Walkway shall be reinforced with welded wire mesh (6” x 6”, #10 x #10). Wire mesh shall be supported during concrete pour so as to be located midway in the pad. Air shall be entrained in the concrete to no less than 4% of the volume of the total pour and no more than 8%. 4.Walkway shall have proper control joints placed not more than 4’ apart. Where walkway comes up to the building, it shall have an expansion joint separating it entirely from the building. Where the walkway meets the bldg.’s (4) egress doors, the slab shall be doweled per industry standards and practices to prevent cracking, heaving, or sinking of the slab 5.Walkway pitch and slope shall adhere to ADA compliance for sidewalks 6.Walkway shall have a broom finish or other facility approved non-slip finish. 7.Walkway shall be sealed with a penetrating sealer as soon as allowed by manufacture directions. Sealer shall be approved by facility personal and shall be rated to protect the concrete from the effects of ice melt. 8.Ground shall be sloped away from walkway for at least 36” on either side unless prevented by building wall. Walkway shall be no more than 2” above ground on either side. Ground shall be left in a smooth rock free and tamped state, contractor shall seed ground where grass was removed. 9.Contractor shall be responsible for providing coverings, additives, or anything else necessary to get walkway to properly cure in inclement weather.10.Pad shall be fenced off with construction fencing when it is left to cure. 11.All work done shall comply with NYS Building Code and all other applicable codes. 12.All construction related debris are the contractor’s responsibility to removed and dispose of properly. 13.All vendor staff working on site shall sign in/out with Broome Developmental Center Safety Department at the start and end of each work day.
