Carroll Butts Athletic Center Improvements

The primary goal of the project is to convert the center into a modern recreation facility with a few core program features. The existing building will primarily serve the gymnastic needs of the District by replacing the indoor turf space with a new gymnastics center with an elevated spectator seating area. Accompanying this aspect of the renovation will be new community meeting rooms, a dance/performance space, lobby, concessions, and support spaces. Improvements to the existing facility will include updates to the interior organization of the building, and modifications to the exterior walls and roofs to improve energy efficiency and daylighting. The HVAC, plumbing, and lighting systems also will be updated.
