Description | This project consists of work for the development of a 70-acre site, with 30 acres of water and 40 acres of land, that would include 14 acres of park. The project scope includes the phased new construction of a 500-foot SkySpire observation tower, an aquarium with below-grade space, a 500 room Virgin-branded hotel, a Yotel hotel with 350 rooms, a Freehand hostel with 225 rooms and 475 beds, 390,000-square-feet of retail and restaurant space, 19,000-square-feet of office space, a 650,000-square-foot, all ages maritime educational institute, Tuna Harbor, a marina with 10,670-linear-feet of docks for 51 commercial slips, 82 recreational slips and 24 mega-yacht slips and 30 acres of new parkland, beach and promenade areas. As of July 10, 2020, this project is in the conceptual design phase. Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is the architect for the marine-focused charter school and the 178,000-square-foot aquarium. A joint venture general contracting team has been selected. Ground breaking is currently anticipated for 2024 at the earliest with completion in 2029. As of August 2021, project is still in the conceptual phase for this multi-year development and the timeline for construction start remains 2024 at the earliest. As of March 8, 2023, the developers are creating an Environment Impact Report (EIR) per the California Environmental Quality Act. They anticipate submitting their final report in 2025 and if approved, construction can start. Phasing of the project has been discussed but not yet confirmed. Construction cost at this time is valued at $3 billion. No inquiries requested at this time. |
