Middle School Prototype Reuse

The scope of work is to provide design and construction support for a new middle school serving reusing a prototype for no more than 900 students in grades 7 and 8. Specifics include: a. The site is located on the vacant +/- 28 acre site located immediately north of Viera High School (6103 Stadium Parkway, Viera Fl. 32940) – Map attached as Exhibit 1. b. One story preferred, but 2 story prototypes may be submitted c. A prototype that has been constructed and operational is preferred, but a prototype under construction contract may be submitted. d. Any public school prototype (including charter schools and elementary schools) that can be reused to meet the needs of up to 900 middle school students in grades 7 and 8 may be submitted. e. Educational and operational parameters that the prototype will need to accommodate include: 1. Internal layout that allows for supervision of students and minimizes opportunities for unsupervised activities 2. Integrated exceptional student education (ESE) rooms that are at least the size of a typical classroom 3. Two supported units - each with a bathroom and private area for personal needs, built in storage for materials and equipment - and access to washer, dryer and refrigerator 4. Media center and adjacent flexible space (for example –innovation lab) 5. At least 6 science labs with flexible space 6. At least 3 dedicated Career and Technical Education spaces 7. Three music spaces – band, chorus and orchestra 8. Gymnasium and locker rooms (supervision in locker rooms) 9. Clinic space with at least 2 separate rooms 10. Single point of entry with secure “man trap” type of front entry 11. Space for itinerant ESE/support personnel 12. Dedicated meeting spaces, secure file storage spaces 13. Technology infrastructure that includes “Modernized Classrooms” and charging spaces 14. Four single-entry restrooms 15. Outdoor learning opportunities 16. Cafeteria 17. Student gathering spaces 18. Site considerations (to be developed during design phase) i. Significant parent drop-off and pick-up area needed ii. Accommodation of significant golf-cart usage iii. Integration with, yet separation from, Viera High School iv. Building orientation options that optimize traffic circulation v. Outside waiting area for students arriving before school vi.
