Description

Repairs to existing a Mechanically Stabilized Earth Retaining wall along Nottingham Road in the Town of Avon. Work includes replacement of keystone block and capstone, replace gravel fill, clay cap and associated work. 1. The repairs should follow the Keystone Construction Manual available at www.keystonewalls.com and included as an Attachment. 2. The block color must match existing blocks. It appears the blocks are Sierra Blend and the color will need to be verified and approved through a submittal process. 3. Work includes removal of non-compatible soil that has migrated into the backfill material and replace with 12” of gravel behind the blocks. 4. There shall be 8” of low permeability compacted soil placed on the surface from the back of guard rail to face of capstone. The existing 8” of material is contaminated and will have to be removed and disposed of properly. The contractor shall prepare a submittal for the material. 5. A non-woven geotextile such a Mirafi 140N or approved equal shall be placed under the low permeability soil. 6. New blocks shall be installed and attached to geogrid per manufacturers recommendations. 7. The debris located on top of the blocks must be removed and disposed of as part of the work. 8. The Nottingham Road MSE wall is 715-LF long. 9. The capstone is triplane, 17” wide, 10” deep and 5” tall. 10. The blockstone is triplane, 18” wide, 12” deep and 8” tall. 11. The project must be completed by November 15, 2020. 12. Materials can be stored at 375 Yoder Ave., near the recycling center. Some staging can occur on the west end, near Metcalf Road.
