Description

https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2023/08/16/university-kansas-gateway-stadium-construction.html 2023/08/16 The project will be primarily funded by private funds from donors and no tuition dollars or state general funds will be used, according to Tuesday's release. A fundraising goal of $300 million has been determined for David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium and Allen Fieldhouse capital projects. A total of $165 million in gifts and commitments have been secured, including $125 million since the project was announced last October, the release stated. =Funding also includes $35 million in ARPA funds appropriated by the 2022 Kansas legislature, as well as up to $50 million through the Kansas Department of Commerce's University Challenge Grant program for economic development. Kansas Athletic may seek bonds for more funding, but those would be paid back through revenue created by the stadium. Additional project phases will include the south and east part of the stadium and multi-use facilities. _____________________________________________________________________________________ As of March 29, 2023, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. The renovations will happen in two phases and will begin this spring. The projects are expected to be completed before the 2024-25 basketball season. Construction and renovation will not impact games for the 2023-24 season. The closed solicitation has been included below for reference. The renovations will look to address concessions, hospitality spaces, seating opportunities and the in-game experience for fans. Kansas Athletics Incorporated (KAI) has developed plans for the home of KU basketball programs, one of the most iconic campus buildings. Allen Fieldhouse seats 16,300 and in addition to locker rooms, concessions and media facilities it houses KAI department functions and coaches offices. Past significant renovations and additions include new courts in 1974 and 1993, the Booth Family Hall of Athletics in 2006 and an expansion of practice and locker room facilities in 2009. In April 2016 the DeBruce Center opened including expanded exhibits that highlight KU basketball program's history along with dining commons. This proposed expansion includes new suite areas, concessions, and improvements for a universally accessible facility with a requirement to address energy conservation and sustainability. In addition to updates to fan amenities and restrooms, areas for press/media and visitor locker rooms the project addresses the need to replace several existing stairways to improve building circulation and safety. The project funding is proposed to be KAI funds and private gifts. This project is in the state’s FY 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Program. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. *The contact(s) will not accept phone call inquiries at this time.
