Description | A. The New York District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (District) is preparing plans and specifications for construction of the Union Beach, Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay, New Jersey Coastal Storm Risk Management Project - Phase 1 contract. Monmouth County, New Jersey B. The Union Beach project area is located in the northern portion of Monmouth County, New Jersey. It occupies a 1.8 square mile area of land along the coast of the Raritan Bay. The study area is defined by the Raritan Bay to the north (Contract 1), the Borough of Keansburg to the east, the Township of Hazlet to the south, and Chingarora Creek (Contract 4) to the west. Flat Creek (Contract 2N) and East Creek (Contract 3 & 2S) both flow through sections of Union Beach. All creeks flow north into the Raritan Bay. The authorized plan provides for reduction of storm damages from coastal erosion and inland flooding caused by high surge events in Raritan Bay through storm protective dune, berm, beach fill, tide gate, levees, floodwalls, road closure gates, pump stations, interior drainage facilities, road raising and wetland mitigation. The State of New Jersey, acting through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), is the non-Federal sponsor for the project. C. This Survey is for Phase 1 construction contract only. Phase 1 Contract – beach fill renourishment of approximately 500,000 – 1,000,000 CY, 1 gravel pedestrian crossover, 1 ADA timber pedestrian crossover, 2 non-ADA pedestrian crossover,1 outfall extension, 5 drainage modifications, Partial demolition of decking, restoration with like in-kind materials, Vibration monitoring, 2 groins and 20-30 acres of dune planting. |
