Description

Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) is located in Rangely Colorado where the Johnson building, a single-story structure located on the western side of campus, currently houses the campus dining hall, kitchen, student health clinic, conference room, community education classrooms, and staff offices. The performance of the heating system in this building has deteriorated over the past several years to the point where the system no longer maintains a tenable environment for students and staff during the heating season. The system has sludge that is clogging piping, strainers, and reducing flow to baseboard heaters and heating coils, and causing extensive damage to heat exchangers. The boiler plant located in Johnson also serves the McLaughlin building with heat. However, the majority of problems and damage are occurring within the Johnson system. This project includes the removal of some piping to analyze the extent of corrosion, flush the entire system in both Johnson and McLaughlin and refill the system with a 30% propylene glycol solution with inhibitors. The project will include the removal and replacement of critical components such as boilers, VAV box heating coils in the Johnson building, along with AHU’s, and new baseboard installation including the dining hall and installation fin tubbed radiators in the Chef’s office. This project also includes the balancing of the heating system in Johnson, and also the balancing of the main heating water branch serving the McLaughlin building.
