Description | 1)This contractor is responsible to obtain and pay for all permits necessary to complete this work per the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). 2) Contractor is expected to pre- assemble piping in sections to minimize the down time for the systems shutdown. Piping can be set up adjacent to the existing system and then the shutdown can occur. Library is closed on Fridays so that would be the optimal time to switch piping from old to new. Shut boiler system down and isolate the piping for the work area. Remove all deteriorated cast iron piping and insulation to the nearest fitting in good condition. Discard all removed piping, insulation and hangers and remove from site to an approved landfill. This includes cold- water cast iron piping that is part of the system as well as hot water cast iron piping. 3) Cut/prepare new cast iron piping and replace the piping and hangers using piping and fittings to match existing equipment. Take caution to clean and prepare pipe cuts and keep interior piping clean during transit and preparation. Set new pipe hangers according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Any cast iron piping connecting to copper should utilize dielectric fittings as directed by Manufacturer’s recommendations. 4) Pressure test the new installed piping using a gauge pumped to manufacturer’s recommended pressure for 24 hours with no measured drop in pressure witnessed. This is to be reviewed by IAP and City Inspector as required. 5) After testing is approved, set new pvc jacketed insulation to match R values of existing system on all piping effected. Tape and seal all joints to provided tight fit with no gaps per Manufacturer’s recommendations. 6) Activate the system and ensure the hot water boiler system and cold water system is operational prior to leaving the project. |
