Description | The Veterans Affairs Regional Office Building is a GSA owned facility. Built in 1995, it is four-stories and is approximately 440, 000 square-feet. The PITC data center is 25,000 square-feet. At the present time, standby power is provided by two (2) redundant 1.5MW temporary generators, which are each configured to carry the entire facility standby load in the event of a complete power loss. Within the distribution system of the building there are three (3) 825kVA uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units that provide instantaneous power to the building standby loads while the generators are starting up. The intent of the project is to provide permanent source of standby power when normal utility power is disrupted. The construction is based on the agreed upon, four (4) new 1750kW generators to be located on the northwest side of the building, near the loading dock. All new fuel storage tanks will be above ground units. A new 2-hour rated switchgear room will be built and located in what is now the existing basement telephone demark room and adjacent space. New walls will enclose a smaller telephone demark room including a new door existing into the switchgear room. The construction documents shall require the successful contractor to update the previously performed electrical studies, such as short circuit, arc flash, and coordination, to account for renovations to the electrical system because of this project. The existing generator building will be emptied of equipment and left as a shell as part of the overall design of this project. The design shall include removal and disposition of the existing generators in a manner, as directed by GSA. The underground fuel tank shall be removed. |
