Description | The project is the restoration of the exterior envelope of Main Hall, a historic mid-nineteenth century Jeffersonian Greekrevival building listed on the National Register as well as the Virginia Landmarks Register. Exterior walls are composed of a rubble stone base, brick middle, and stucco entablature. Wood windows and original glazing are to be restored or replicated to match adjacent historic construction. Exterior infrastructure will be completely replaced and upgraded to be compliant with all contemporary codes. The building is approximately 56,000 GSF, 4 stories above grade and 58 feet high. The project includes the restoration of approximately 220 wood windows. Main Hall will be occupied during construction by a limited number of administrative staff and will function as the “front door” of the institution as well as the administrative offices [business use with incidental assembly and storage] of a functioning K-12 learning facility for students with specific disabilities. |
