Mitchell K-8 School - 2020 Bond - Racine Unified School District

As of January 6, 2023, a construction manager has been selected and this project is in the planning phase. Information regarding an architect has not been released. Construction is expected to begin in May of 2024 and be complete in August of 2025. Bond fund $598 million of work over 30 years MITCHELL K-8 SCHOOL The referendum would provide the funding needed to make the following improvements at Mitchell: SAFETY & SECURITY: • Secure Middle School Office • Update for ADA-compliant access • Install additional security cameras and emergency backup generator • Replace clock systems K-8 LEARNING SPACES: • Expand Elementary School to six sections using 1931 section of building • Enlarge Library and add Maker Spaces • Reduce Middle School to five sections and add breakout spaces • Remodel Family and Consumer Education rooms • Create new Technical Education spaces NEW ADDITIONS: • Create new Middle School office and entry on North side, create Sensory Room • Build secure community room near Elementary Office • Replace 1938 gym with new two-station, gymnasium (include fitness and music space) INFRASTRUCTURE: • Refresh building interiors (LED lighting, flooring, casework, paint walls) • Address building maintenance (doors, HVAC updates, plumbing, exterior masonry, roofing, concrete/asphalt and retro-commissioning) The 2020 bond referendum was passed and approved by the voters on April 7, 2020.
