Description | To modify the structural steel framework, remove old gantry crane steel supports, remove the 4 existing loading compactors, reinforce the steel endwall framework of the building, and build a new loading dock. The purpose of this dock is to facilitate and improve the efficiency of loading the transfer trailer used to transport MSW and yard debris from the transfer station. All the work will be done at the northeast end of the Dekalb Sanitation Department’s North Transfer Station located at 4600 Buford Highway, Chamblee, GA. This facility is used for the temporary storage and loading of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and Yard Debris (YD) generated in Dekalb County prior to its being hauled to the Seminole Road Landfill for disposal or processing. The work will consist of removing and disposing of the 4 waste compactors (and their control panel) that had been used to load MSW and YD into the transfer trailers for transportation to the landfill. All the electrical power has been cut off to the waste compactors, but the contractor should verify this to their own satisfaction. The contractor will be responsible for the removal and disposal of all the hydraulic fluid in each of the compactor’s hydraulic fluid reservoir prior to removal of the compactor. It will be the contractor duty to dispose of the compactors off site, preferably by recycling the metal. The Dekalb County Sanitation Department (Sanitation) will remove the bulk of the MSW and YD currently in the hoppers of the compactors. Any residual MSW and YD the contractor removes from the compactors may be disposed of in the transfer station. The contractor must take care not to damage the two columns located between the paired compactors and the column located between the two sets of compactors. |
