Description | This purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the deteriorating wastewater systems in A-Loop Oak Ridge campground, Cabin Camp 3, Turkey Run campground, and the Park’s concessionaire-operated recreational vehicle (RV) campground in Prince William Forest Park. The project will also rehabilitate the deteriorating water lines in the RV campground and all paved and unpaved roadways which are impacted by installation of infrastructure lines and associated appurtenances. The project will address ongoing deferred maintenance and code deficiencies by upgrading each system for continued service and current demands. The Oak Ridge campground consists of A-Loop, B-Loop, and C-Loop. The A-Loop Comfort Station serves fortytwo individual campsites which can accommodate a maximum of 252 people each night from April through October. The existing septic tanks in the A-Loop have inadequate capacity to accommodate visitor use and is not up to current code. The work consists of removing and relacing wastewater pipe, manholes, cleanouts, and concrete septic tanks. B & C Loop system are currently being repaired and updated and are not be part of this project. The Cabin Camp 3 has thirty-seven structures, and eight of these require a functional wastewater system. The system is well beyond its life span and has begun to fail. The piping is primarily vitrified clay pipe, and this is an original component installed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The existing leach field and distribution boxes have become completely overwhelmed by root infiltration and continually fail. The Camp 3 work consists of removing and relacing wastewater pipe, manholes, and cleanouts. The work also consists of replacing concrete septic tanks, leach field, lift stations, dosing chamber, and grease trap at the camp’s dining hall. The Turkey Run Campground wastewater system serves the campground itself, along with the Resource Management Office, and the Law Enforcement office and employee training room. The work consists of removing and relacing wastewater pipe, manholes, and cleanouts. The RV campground sewer and water system serve seventy camping sites. The wastewater piping has many deficiencies such as root infiltration, cracks, broken sections of pipe, and offsetting joints. The improvement to the piping will improve the efficiency and operational capability of the lift station. The water lines serving the RV campground are of similar age and are reaching the end of their design life. The work consists of removing and relacing manholes and cleanouts, wastewater pipe, water lines, yard hydrants and dump stations. |
