Water: Solar Electric Project - 402-013 - City of Eau Claire

In April 2018, a feasibility study was commissioned to investigate solar electric options at municipal facilities. The most cost effective projects had an assumed cumulative cash flow return on average starting in year 12 with thereafter ongoing electricity and demand charge savings realized. One of the solar projects would be located at the Water Treatment plant. The City is investigating the potential of a micro-grid at the WTP. It would look at how this solar pairs with needed backup generation to operate the plant optimally. As June 9, 2023, this project is currently in the FY 2023 - 2027 CIP and funding is allotted for FY 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
