This project includes replacement of the existing lime feed system in a new building, basin and clearwell rehabilitation, and construction of a chlorine dioxide disinfection system including a building to house chemical feed equipment and a new disinfection basin. ------ The Water Treatment Plant 2 currently has a total filtration capacity of 32.4 MGD. The plant has a total of 4 basins with a combined capacity of 38 MGD. Raw feed water is split between four basins, three softening and one coagulation basin, where it receives single-stage treatment before it is split between the convention filters and the membranes. The lime system was installed in 1998 and then expanded in 2005. The existing system consists of three lime silos and one soda ash silo. The original lime silos were retro-fitted with RDP Tekkem lime shaking equipment in 2005. Lime silo 1 is conveyed from the silo cone in the upper level by screw conveyor to the slaker in the upper level of silo 2. Silo 3 has its own slaking system. This is a pressurized system to prevent the slurry from caking. The soda ash silo was constructed in 2005. This silo was used very shortly and abandoned with soda ash still in the silo. Basin 1 is original to the plant and all equipment is from 1964. Basin 2, 3 and 4 were constructed with later expansions to the facility. All of the basins have various issues that shall be addressed with this project. This project will address all items necessary for the rehabilitation, construction and operation of the completed project. Work will include a lime building for housing of all equipment, all necessary mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control layout, primary clarifying improvements, demolition plans and phasing, basin improvements, and selection of equipment. |
