Description

1. An unnamed tributary to Indian Creek, which is itself a tributary to Hokendauqua Creek, is located primarily in Lehigh Township, Northampton County. The stream and streambanks have become degraded as they run through the Township’s Indian Trail Park (Appendix C). Severe erosion is evident along the streambanks while stream conditions show signs of degradation from channelization and a lack of best management practices. In 2018, the Township met with Wildlands Conservancy to discuss potential solutions to improve park conditions. Since then, Wildlands has agreed to partner with the Township as the project manager for stream restoration. 2.Restoration of the stream channel will reduce erosion and sedimentation issues, increase flood capacity, and address safety concerns within the park. This will include streambank grading and stabilization, the installation of instream structures, and the removal of a failing pedestrian bridge. The installation of a riparian buffer will provide long-term streambank stabilization and erosion control, floodplain storage during storm events, wildlife habitat, filtration of runoff, and aesthetic appeal for park users. The requested proposal is for the procurement of materials and completion of stream restoration construction at Indian Trail Park.
