Central Plant #3, Secondary Pumps Replacement

This project is primarily a maintenance pump replacement project. The existing chilled water secondary pumps in Central Plant #3 are beyond their service life and shall be replaced. The work shall involve, but not be limited to, replacement of five chilled water pumps along with the pumps associated isolation valves, flow control valve, check valve, suction diffuser and hydronic specialties. Electrical work shall include replacement of variable speed drives, replacement of VFD by-pass starters and reworking of the power feeds to all the pumps. Controls work shall include installation of new PLC devices along with reworking existing PLC devices. Controls work shall also include programming of the installed devices along with the existing plant devices requiring modifications. Work will be performed in an operating chilled water plant. All work shall be coordinated with UAB Central Plant Operations and UAB Project Management. Pump systems shall be replaced one at a time so that the new pump is operational prior to working on the next pump system. Additionally, work shall proceed only during weather that reduces loading on the University chiller plants system.
