Description | Demolition of existing structure, including all above-grade and below-grade portions like foundations, floor slabs, garages, outbuildings (unless specifically excluded), dead trees, existing vegetation, topsoil, organic or otherwise unsuitable soils must be removed completely. Removal and disposal of all debris shall be done in compliance with all applicable Federal and State Laws as well as the Building Code of the City of Hammond. All sewers shall be plugged at the first hub inside the property line, and all water lines shall be tied off and capped on the property side of the buffalo box. Said removal of buildings, equipment, and material shall be cleared off within fifteen (15) days from the date of the issuance of the demolition permit. After removing these elements, the exposed subgrade soil should be observed by the geotechnical engineer to verify that all unsuitable materials are removed. Once the subgrade appears suitable and prior to placing any new fill, the exposed subgrade should be proof-rolled (where practical) using a loaded dump-truck or similar. Unsuitable bearing soils encountered during proof-rolling should either be undercut and replaced with suitable Structural Fill (B-borrow) or stabilized adequately. New fill shall be Structural Fill (B-borrow) (no slag) and shall be adequately compacted in lifts no greater than 10 inches. Where new fill is placed against existing slopes, the new fill must be benched into the existing slope, as per ISS. Benches should be at least 10 ft wide into the existing slopes that are steeper than 4 (horizontal) to 1 (vertical). |
