Description

This project will demolish existing Building 45, reclaim, historic brick, provide a new parking lot, and a new steam tunnel access point. Building 45 will be demolished via disassembly in a controlled and photographically documented manner (specifically top-down dismantling using enclosed clamshell or claw equipment) to minimize the loss of historic bricks. The contractor will reclaim 1500 cleaned historic bricks that will be removed from the building for use in repair of historic buildings with the Historic Landmark District. Bricks are to be collected from areas not used for salt storage, not painted, unbroken, and in good condition. Due to the potential contamination of the ground underneath the building, the contractor will cap the ground and convert the area into a surface parking lot and greenspace. The existing access to the steam tunnel will be modified to provide access from the exterior to the tunnel.
