Description | DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT The project consists of vacuum excavating approximately 10,000 suspected lead service lines in the Springfield area to identify both the utility owned and customer owned service line material types. The State of Illinois EPA requires an initial material inventory by April 15, 2022 and a complete material inventory no later than April 15, 2024. This will be a combined effort with both CWLP staff and a Contractor. Contractor will vacuum excavate to verify the service line material on both the city side and the customer side. The city owned portion of the service line will be potholed within a grass or gravel area, but as close to the water main as possible. The customer owned portion of the service line will also be potholed within a grass or gravel area, but as close to the property line as possible. CWLP staff will document the material type at each pothole location. Addresses will be skipped if the service line cannot be potholed in a grass or gravel. Alternate Bid: The Contractor will protect excavations prior to final backfill. All excavations will be backfilled to grade with sand by the Contractor. |
