Description

The current boat launch will be rehabilitated and remain in use for canoe, kayak and other non-motorized access. The proposed motorized watercraft access and adjacent parking area will be constructed at a new location to minimize safety issues caused by congestion between canoes, kayaks and motorboats. An additional parking area for vehicles with trailers will be constructed adjacent to the new motorized boat launch, along with day use road improvements for additional parking and edge protection and barriers. There will be site improvements at the south side of the non-motorized watercraft launch parking area, including improvements to the comfort station to be made accessible with plumbing and electrical upgrades, the addition of an interpretive plaza with a shade structure, a portable toilet pad with overhead structure, and an outdoor recreation access route down to the non-motorized boat launch location. Other site improvements throughout the peninsula include improvements to the vault toilets to be made accessible, bank stabilization at erosive locations, and tree pruning and removal throughout. A new interpretive trail will also be constructed within the peninsula that connects the various site features. This project will also upgrade wayfinding signage and interpretive media that will be focused on educating the public about the history of the river and the relevant environmental issues, while also making this media accessible to all visitors.
