Description

The City of Selma (City) invites qualified contractors (Contractor), who are licensed in the State of Alabama to submit a response to the Invitation to Bid (ITB) for all labor, equipment, materials, and any incidentals required to complete the replacement and construction of new dock, gangway and piling systems with specified dredging requirements. Late bids will not be considered. The City reserves the right to amend or supplement this ITB prior to the bid due date. (For questions contact Todd Mize at (334) 414-8529 or Todd.Mize@dcnr.alabama.gov) All addendum(s), responses to questions received, and additional information will be electronically posted electronically Deadline for Written Questions October 5, 2022 Framing: Any metal framing, components, hardware, etc... shall be hot dipped galvanized after fabrication, aluminum or stainless steel; no other type of metals or framing materials will be allowed without written permission from the designing engineer. Freeboard: The docks shall have a 16" to 22" freeboard (r1") tolerance. Flotation: All flotation shall consist of high-density polyethylene casings (minimum thickness of 0.1 ") filled with expanded polystyrene or aluminum floats filled with expanded polystyrene. Contractor shall provide drawings of attachment of floats to structure. Decking: The decking shall consist of segmented pre-cast concrete panels, aluminum decking, solid high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or ipe wood. All screws and other external fasteners must be stainless steel or hot dipped galvanized; any variation must be approved by designing engineer. Loading: Vertical loading on the decking and structural framing shall support a uniform live load of not less than 50 psf over all or a part of the structure. The flotation shall support a live load of 30 psf and the dead load without violating the freeboard requirements, horizontal loading the decking and framing shall support a 20 psf applied to all surfaces horizontally including the boats occupying the slips. Steel Piles: The Contractor shall install the piles at the location shown on the plans. The piles shall be heavy walled, 6" diameter steel piling. The contractor shall determine the piling length. This length is based on required top elevation and minimal penetration, as shown on plans. The pile shall be primed the entire length and painted to match any existing pilings, if no pilings exist the paint color shall be grey. This work shall be done in accordance with Section 505 of the ALDOT Specifications. The piles shall have flat full welded caps (1/2" thick). Pile Bracket: The pile bracket shall be designed and supplied by the pier manufacturer. The pile bracket must be designed using some variation of an internal, 4(four) roller design. The pier manufacturer shall supply all hardware needed to properly connect the pile bracket to the pier.
