Description | Repair Adams Key Dock, Replace Adams Key Concrete Dock, Repair Black Point Jetty Trail, Repair Boardwalk and Trails at Convoy Point, Replace Waysides at Elliot Key, Convoy Point Dock, Boardwalk Elliott Key. Project Description The Government anticipates awarding a single contract that will likely encompass most, if not all, of the smaller projects listed below. All of these projects are within Biscayne National Park. 244358A Repair Shoreline Erosion on Boca Chita Key: This project will address 30,000 SF of shoreline erosion on the Atlantic side of Boca Chita Key. Repairs include filling the eroded area and adding stabilizing measures, based on architectural and engineering recommendations. Exposed posts will be re-covered to eliminate safety hazards to visitors. Topographic survey will be required. Archaeological survey will be performed by others. 244359A Repairs to Black Point Jetty Trail: This project will address repairs to the Black Point Jetty Trail caused by erosion and storm surge. Included in this work is the replacement of 6,340 SF of riprap along the trail and entrance road, the replacement of 21,500 SF of gravel trail surface. Topographic survey will be required. 244361A Repair of Boardwalk and Trails at Convoy Point VC Area: This project will address repairs to the boardwalk, hardening the trail, and converting the unpaved trail to a paved, accessible trail in the Convoy Point Visitor Center area. Repairs will include replacing 3800 SF of boardwalk and elevating some sections, repairing 4320 SF of hardened trail surface, repairing 140 LF of railing, and the minor repointing of wall along the trail. Topographic survey will be required at the boardwalk and trail area. 244362A Replace Boardwalk on Elliott Key: This project will replace the boardwalk trail on the Atlantic side of Elliott Key. The entire 1200 LF trail was washed away by storm surge and needs to be rebuilt. The total area of the trail is 6000 SF. Topographic survey will be required at the boardwalk trail area. 244357A (combined w/ 244352B) Replace Waysides on Elliott Key: Design shall be for footings for the waysides. 244363A Repairs to Docks at Convoy Point Waterfront: Included in this work is the repair/replacement of 5032 SF of concrete floating dock, replacement of 400 SF of aluminum gangway, 125 SF of wooden walkway, replacing a 2 SF concrete pile (18 ft. high), two water and electrical service pedestals, and other dock support materials. Topographic and bathymetric survey will be required. Geotechnical Analysis will be required. 251121A Replace Adams Key Concrete Dock: Adams Key dock was built in 1977 and after 31 years of the saltwater environment and Hurricane IRMA the concrete dock has begun to fail. Hurricane IRMA exacerbated structural fractures along the dock’s main corridor connecting Adam’s Key to the outer docking pier. The heavily traveled channel has a fast flowing current with each tidal change and endures pounding boat wake from each passing vessel. BISC recently changed the channel to a slow-speed zone to protect the NPS asset and increase visitor safety. The dock’s 8" concrete deck has numerous cracks. Most of the original cleats have broken off resulting in numerous patches along the outer edges. The dock crossbeams (which support the 8" thick deck) is spalling into the water. An inspection by a structural engineer has been completed. A structural engineer has determined through a VA analysis that the dock is in need of new structural beams and complete new deck. The pilings are still in good condition and will be reused. The fuel line and electrical components will have to be removed and reinstalled after replacement. A structural analysis is required; full dock replacement may be needed. Topographic and bathymetric survey will be required. Geotechnical Analysis will be required. 251215A Repairs to Park Entrance Road: Hurricane IRMA storm surge eroded the shoreline and is undercutting the park entrance road. In some areas, the shoreline has eroded to less than a car-length distance between the entrance road and the drop-off into the canal waters. This project will fund repairs from erosion and storm surge on approximately 300 linear feet along the park entrance road. Stabilization measures will be installed along the road’s shoreline based on architectural and engineering recommendations. Repairs to currently undercut sections of the road will be filled and stabilized. A section of the roadway will be re-paved; 2 potholes of the roadway pavement section will be required. Topographic survey will be required. |
