Illicit Discharge and Detection Elimination (IDDE) Project for River Basins 1 & 12 and Smaller Towns Statewide

In VT River Basin 1 (Battenkill, Hoosic, Walloomsac) and 12 (Deerfield-CT Direct) only a partial assessment has been completed for ten towns due to the availability of funding. Illicit discharge assessment and elimination should be performed in these towns as a basic step toward improving water quality. The proposed project will locate and characterize contaminant sources and initiate correction of bacterial, nutrient, and hazardous material discharges to receiving waters in these towns and urbanizations. Advanced investigation or stream investigative follow-up work is needed for 26 outfalls in Basin 1 and 12. Initial studies in Basin 12 also revealed elevated E.coli contamination at 2 locations on tributaries to the Battenkill in Manchester and an effort is committed here to locating the sources of pollution.
